Pennard House Weddings

As a professional wedding photographer, I get the opportunity to photograph weddings at some pretty amazing wedding venues, and Pennard House is one of my favourites. Set in the Somerset Countryside, this Grade II listed Manor House is a hidden gem that is perfect for relaxed, creative festival weddings due to the available space for glamping. I wanted to share with you all my favourite features of this unique wedding venue, and how I use the space on a wedding day. (along with some insider tips!)

Wedding Photography

My style of wedding photography is really natural and informal. It’s perfect for this style of wedding venue. My focus is on capturing natural moments as they happen rather than having lots of staged photos, and a laid back rural wedding is the perfect environment for this.

There is an abundance of space at this country estate venue to roam and explore. With meadows, woodland, apple orchard and south-facing garden, even a freshwater swimming lake! Giving us a stunning and varied backdrop to take natural couple portraits in a documentary style. Pennard House really is a wedding photographer’s dream!

Pennard House Accommodation

When booking Pennard House for your wedding you have exclusive use of the gardens and The Coach House. The bride and groom also have complimentary use of the Orchard Bridal suite in the main house on the night of the wedding. This light and spacious room can also be used for bridal preparations. It is south facing so your makeup artist (and photographer!) will love you ;)

There are additional rooms available for your guests to stay in the house with you, or for the more adventurous you can also hire tipis in the grounds, complete with double beds, soft linen and warm quilts!

Insider tip: Pennard House does not book consecutive weddings so you can stay extra nights and make it a full weekend wedding!

Pennard House is a family home ran by Harry and Georgina. It has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that will make your guests feel at home as soon as they arrive.

Pennard House offers ample space for both the bride and groom to get ready at the same venue without risk of seeing each other. This also means that I am able to photograph both parties getting ready in the morning, capturing the excited energy, final preparations and pre-wedding fun! The story of a wedding starts at the very beginning of the day and I love being there to capture it.

Pennard House Wedding Ceremony

Pennard House welcomes all types of wedding ceremonies. Civil ceremonies can be held in their indoor or outdoor licensed ceremony spaces and you can choose which space you want to use on the day – so the weather doesn’t have to be a factor. Major plus! For religious weddings, there is a picturesque village church just across the garden. It’s so close your guests can meander through the garden to the church without need for any additional transport. And for humanist ceremonies, you have the freedom to choose anywhere on the grounds.

Insider tip: Why not have your humanist ceremony beside the freshwater lake?!

I love photographing outdoor weddings (when the weather permits!) It allows me extra space to be creative. I can move quietly around the ceremony capturing different angles without the danger of missing a moment.

Following the wedding ceremony, there is the option of a drinks reception on the south-facing terrace.  This is a great space for me to photograph candid moments as you mingle with your guests. It is also the perfect backdrop for group pictures should you wish to have them for your wedding album.

Wedding Reception

Guests are then moved to the Coach House for the wedding reception which is a beautiful intimate space for up to 120 guests and can be decorated to suit your wedding and your style.

The dining room on the first floor accommodates long tables for a sit-down meal. I find long tables are the best for photographing guests chatting, laughing and enjoying the speeches.

On the ground floor of the Coach House, the converted stables equipt with a fitted bar and sound system, make for an intimate and quirky dance floor to party the night away as newlyweds!
